GitHub status badges not displaying image

Our CircleCI badges are now showing only the alt-text, and not the image.
(I’m not quite sure when this started, but I noticed it today)

FWIW

  • We’re using CircleCI 2.0
  • The repos in question are both public and private ones.
  • The markdown is straight out of the dropdown in the Status Badges page.
  • Clicking on the alt-text takes me to the actual status page

Resolved it - turns out i needed to add a “Status” API token
Color me shamefaced…
