We have deprecated the following macOS images on CircleCI and will be removing them from our platform:
- Xcode 9.3.1 - deprecated, removal date 28 September 2020
- Xcode 9.0.1 - deprecated, removal date 5 October 2020
What does this mean for me?
Once an image is removed, the CircleCI jobs that use that image will fail with an error. You will need to update your CircleCI config to use a newer Xcode version to use moving forward. See the CircleCI Testing on iOS document for the full list of Xcode versions that are available for you to use.
Our recommendation for Xcode 9.0.1 and Xcode 9.3.1 users is to update to Xcode 10 or newer, or alternatively use Xcode 9.4.1.
Why are these images being deprecated?
The Xcode 9 images are now around 3 years old and as new Xcode images are being released by Apple on a frequent basis, we need to balance the available capacity for our customers. By removing these images, we will ensure we are able to continue releasing new images quickly and easily, including beta images.
