Where is Xcode 16.3?

Xcode 16.3 release candidate was released today but has been through several betas over the past month and I don’t see any news of even a beta image being available? What is the ETA on this being made available please?

I reached out to CircleCI support and was told:

There are some new requirements introduced in xCode 16.3 that require some infrastructure changes on our end before we can build out support for it and make the images available. While the work is in progress, we do not have an ETA at this time.

Which is a little concerning.

MacOS 15.2+ is the only new requirement I’m aware of that Xcode 16.3 introduces. It’s possible/likely that this could be contributing to the delay if they were using MacOS 14 before.

Yep… previous images were on macOS 14.6.1

Found it on this doc:

Does anyone know when we can expect xCode 16.3 to be available in circleci?

No one knows, and CircleCI’s lack of communication on this front is worrisome. :frowning:

@circleci-community, please provide us with any updates on this, or could you tag someone who knows the answer?

Fortunately I’ve been able to hold off completing our migration to 16.3 due to numerous reports of issues with it and/or the 18.4 simulator, but it would still be nice for Circle to at least give us an ETA on a beta/test image.

Hello,

We’re actively working on resolving a number of issues rolling out Xcode 16.3 that were introduced in this release, affecting both the guest virtual machine and the host machine.

We don’t currently have an estimate on when it will be resolved at this time, but are working to release it as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience, and we’ll update this thread as soon as the image is released.

Hi, @cade. Any updates on this issue? We are holding full Swift 6 migration due to this delay, it’s becoming more and more critical for our company.

@cade Any update? We depend on Xcode 16.3 for our builds and it has been a really long time without CI. I’m considering moving away from CircleCI if you guys do not provide support in a manner way.

16.4 beta is out (Xcode 16.4 beta (16F1t) - Releases - Apple Developer) already, but CircleCI struggles for more than a month with 16.3

Maybe when 16.5 is out we’ll get it.

I would appreciate some more clarity and information on what the delay is and some kind of ETA on when you hope to ship this new image.

@cade Any update would be appreciated as right now several companies seem to be waiting for, and are blocked only by CircleCI.

Hello,

We continue to work with our hosting provider to resolve a networking issue that is present in macOS 15.3. This technical issue is blocking the release of images with Xcode 16.3 and later due to the minimum macOS version required to virtualize macOS 15.2 and 15.3, which is a requirement for Xcode 16.3 and 16.4.

We are treating this issue with the highest priority, and hope to come to a resolution as soon as possible. We’ll update this thread once we have resolved the networking issue and have a timeline for the release of Xcode 16.3 and 16.4

Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Hello,

I have some good news to share!

We have resolved all of the technical blockers preventing the release of Xcode 16.3 and have already begun rolling out the required infrastructure changes to our network and fleet of Macs.

We estimate this work to complete early next week (May 29), and we’re targeting a release of Xcode 16.3 before the end of next week. Following that release we’ll prioritize getting the Xcode 16.4 Beta image available for testing as soon as possible.

This was posted last week and states the work will be completed early “next week” and that Xcode 16.3 will be available by the end of “next week”. That’s this week? Because you’ve put May 29, which is the end of next week.

Hello everyone,

Xcode 16.3.0 and 16.4.0 are now available for use on all macOS executors.

We’ll be posting the releases on our public changelog shortly.

Thanks again for your patience while we worked through the technical issues blocking these image releases.
