I really doubt if the error message is explicit. It says "Invalid template path", this seems to be unrelated to the location of the template file, but rather to the way the path is being defined?

Your template is misspelled. It’s missing the letter ‘l’ (ell). It is tempate.yml. I feel like I should have noticed that earlier. Sorry for sending us both on such a long quest.
