Errors building on Debian-based images

Hi,
I’m hitting an error trying to run docker build in the remote environment. We’re using node images provided by Circle. We run CI in the docker environment and then use setup_remote_docker with ‘docker build’ and ‘docker push’ steps to export images.

I get the following type of error using circleci/node:latest image. You can see ‘docker login’ works but the next step, ‘docker build’ fails:
Login Succeeded
ERRO[0000] failed to dial gRPC: cannot connect to the Docker daemon. Is ‘docker
daemon’ running on this host?: dial unix /var/run/docker.sock: connect: no such file or
directory
error during connect: Post http://%2Fvar%2Frun%2Fdocker.sock/

I don’t have this problem with a the vanilla Ubuntu docker images but would really like to use the CircleCI image.

Thanks,
David

Hey @dpwelch,
