# Github forced through SSH protocol

Hmm a bit more info… I guess git supports different protocol and circle ci explicitly forces ssh instead of https:

> [url “ssh://git@github.com”]  
> insteadOf = [https://github.com](https://github.com)

Is there a reason behind this?
